Children in Lowwood Primary may receive Learning Support throughout the school year. This will be with Mrs Buckley within school or from outside services such as Harberton Outreach, CIDS and the Peripetic Service.
Children receive additional support for a variety of reasons, for example to cover learning which they might have missed or need reinforcement in, to boost their confidence and self esteem relating to classwork and also to further the learning potential of children who are coping well with their daily classwork.
Lowwood Primary also has a Friendship Club which meets once a week. This is focussed on developing children's social and interaction skills through a variety of games and craft activities. We target sharing skills, turn taking, what makes a good friend and developing friendships by combining a mixture of classes. This usually runs for a block of 10 weeks for a group identified by the class teachers and by parental request.
Maths Recovery is available for children who require reinforcement is specific key areas of maths. This can be carried out on a one to one or small group basis. Areas of difficulty will be targeted by a series of practical teaching activities.
The Reading Partnership has been working well in Lowwood Primary. We currently have two trained members of staff who take three children each, three times a week for one to one reading sessions. This is a great help to encourage children to read a variety of genre and to develop a love of reading.
