Primary 6 have had an excellent start to the new school year and it's amazing to see what a difference a year in Lowwood makes. Having taken the class last year, it is so impressive to see the progress that each child has made within this time and to witness the increased maturity and positive attitude towards their learning and additionally their desire to achieve across all subjects. Moving into Primary 5 (KS2) proved a big hurdle for everyone, with more complex work in Literacy and Numeracy and generally more expected of the whole class. Primary 6 is no different. Another major hurdle to conquer, but knowing the class, they will take it all in their stride and achieve great things.
Our World Around Us topic this term is Titanic, which has already proven extremely popular with the children. They are currently enjoying learning about Belfast in 1912, reviewing old photographs and comparing and contrasting life then, to their more modern and technologically advanced surroundings. Soon they will delve into the depths of the icy Atlantic ocean to recover the heart-wrenching and fated story of the 'Ship of Dreams'. Children's heads will be filled with facts and figures and a new found sense of the wonderful rich history of their home city.
We all look forward to a wonderful year, filled with enjoyment and a focus on learning new and exciting things.
